Three people lost their lives in a blast today near the JUI-F rally that was being held in Quetta. More than dozen were injured when a suspected suicide bomber detonated explosives outside the jalsa. JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman was not harmed in the attack and according to him it was the bomb proof car that protected him. The target of the bomber seemed to be Maulana’s car.

The police said because of the security around the place of the jalsa, the bomber was not able to enter inside otherwise there would have been many casualties. The senior police officer further added that about 8 kilo of explosives were used but fortunately due to the bomb proof car provided by the government to the chief of JUI-F, he was saved.  According to Dawn News, eyewitnesses informed that the blast took place immediately after the rally ended, which was held in honour of Mufti Mehmood at the Sadiq Shaheed stadium.

Speaking to a private TV channel, the JUI-F chief said that the blast targeted his vehicle as he was departing from the venue of the rally. He said that he and his colleagues survived the attack as they were riding in a bomb-proof vehicle. Ambulances provided by Edhi centre and security teams took the injured to the nearby Civil Hospital for treatment.
