Canada’s world cup campaign got underway on Sunday with a warm-up match against rivals The Netherlands at the Global Cricket Academy in Dubai. Canada who has been training for 10 days at GCA as part of the ICC High Performance Program’s World Cup tune up for Associate Nations (Kenya and Ireland are also at GCA).

Canada won the toss and sent the Netherlands into bat. Batting first, the Netherlands were dismissed for 151, setting a target which Canada overhauled with more than ten overs to spare. Khurram Chohan (2-18), Harvir Baidwan (2-29), Parth Desai (2-18) and Balaji Rao (2-12) all took two wickets for Canada as the Dutch were bowled out in 44.4 overs – Tom de Grooth top scoring with 41.

Canada’s victory charge was then led by Jimmy Hansra, whose unbeaten 54 led them to
a comfortable win despite Mudassar Bukhari returning four for 17.

  1. Encouraging result for Canada! But it was a little worrying that Zimbabwe easily defeated Ireland. We could have our work cut out for us on February 28!
