Off-Season Changes Bring Renewed Hope for the Raptors

On the eve of their 15th season, there seems to be renewed optimism surrounding the Toronto Raptors. The 2008/09 season, to say the least, was a disappointing one for the organization and their fans. Pottinger Signing Strengthens Special Teams

Just in time for the new year, the Toronto Argonauts Football Club is pleased to announce that LB Jason Pottinger has extended with the Argos through the 2011 season. Pottinger arrived in Toronto in March 2009 in a trade with the B.C. Lions. In his first season with the Argonauts, fourth in the CFL, the Whitby, Ontario native finished with 12 special teams tackles. He also recorded six defensive tackles, one quarterback sack and forced a fumble while subbing in on defence at middle linebacker. He was a key cog for Toronto’s special teams unit that saw recently resigned teammate Andre Durie put up 1,033 kickoff return yards (the fourth-highest single season total in club history).

The second pick overall in the 2006 CFL Canadian Draft out of McMaster University, Pottinger has never missed a game in the pros. In 72 games, he has accumulated 57 defensive tackles, 76 special teams tackles and two quarterback sacks.

Pottinger remarked, “"I am extremely excited to remain an Argo! The Toronto Argonauts Football Club is not only rich with history and loyal fans, but it is also located in my home city. I am looking forward to the 2010 season; both the athletes and the front office staff are determined to bring the Toronto Argos back to fine form, something that our dedicated fans more than deserve."

Adam Rita, GM/VP, Football Operations, commented, “I think Jason has a bright future in front of him. He’s been a consistent special teams player and has the potential to get in the rotation at the LB spot. We expect him to have an even more productive year in 2010 and work to become a starter in the near future. We are proud to keep another hometown boy in Toronto.”
