Winner of the 1990 Olivier Award for Best New Play, the modern classic Racing Demon is more timely than ever. Downton Abbey‘s Lesley Nicol and Mad Men‘s Jared Harris star in this affecting drama about four clergymen desperately seeking to make sense of their mission while being torn in all directions by the Church of England. In their struggle, the priests confront the role of women in the church, gay clergy, the role of evangelism in inner-city communities and the doctrine of the priesthood. Recipient of a PEN Pinter Prize, writer David Hare has for decades been creating bold dramas for stage (Plenty, Skylight) and screen (The Hours). This L.A. Theatre Works performance will focus on the power of Hare’s words, presenting the show without costumes or sets, and will be recorded for later broadcast on public and satellite radio.
