Norman Lear & Jane Lynch

If you grew up racing to the screen to catch George Jefferson moving on up, Archie Bunker delivering his latest zinger, or even J.J. Evans shouting his “Dyn-o-mite!” catchphrase, you have TV legend Norman Lear to thank for it all. The iconic TV writer and producer comes to Santa Monica’s Aero Theatre to discuss his impact on the small screen and his 2014 memoir Even This I Get to Experience. Lear racked up awards for such ground-breaking sitcoms as All in the Family, The Jeffersons, Good Times, Maude and many more couch potato delights. He’s also left his mark on the big screen — his Act III Communications produced such films as Stand By Me and The Princess Bride. The Television Academy Hall of Famer was awarded the National Medal of Arts in 1999, with President Clinton declaring: “Norman Lear has held up a mirror to American society and changed the way we look at it.” And that’s just the tip of the iceberg; he’s also founded numerous civic pride-boosting and eco-conscious initiatives. With such a storied past, it’s hard to keep all the details straight, but event moderator Jane Lynch is up to the task. Best known as Glee‘s caustic Coach Sue Sylvester, the razor-sharp Emmy and Golden Globe-winning star of TV, film and stage will host this LiveTALKS Los Angeles discussion.
