Investigators with the York Regional Police Sexual Assault Unit are encouraging victims to come forward following the arrest of a male suspect in the City of Toronto.
In February, 2013 the York Regional Police Sexual Assault Unit began an investigation of a suspect who had allegedly sexually assaulted a 15-year-old female. The suspect communicated with the victim over a mobile phone, using text messages and images of a sexual nature. In January, 2013 the suspect picked up the victim in his vehicle where it is alleged that he sexually assaulted her.
On Tuesday, April 16, 2013 the accused was arrested by investigators and charged with Sexual Assault, Sexual Interference, Invitation to Sexual Touching, Access Child Pornography, Possess Child Pornography, Making Available Sexually Explicit Material, Luring a Child With Intent x3. Investigators feel that there may be more victims and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
The accused is:
– Claudio Moreira, 30 years, City of Toronto
– Male, white
– 5’11’’, 170 lbs., thin build
– Brown hair and brown eyes
York Regional Police encourages victims to report incidents of sexual assault including historical offences. There is no statute of limitations for sexual offences and offenders can be prosecuted well after the date of the offence.
