Police has announced to have charged a 12-year-old girl and 14-year-old boy with abduction and robbery after they allegedly robbed a mother and attempted to adduct her baby by grabbing it out of her arms while she was walking from the Guildwood GO station in Scarborough Thursday night.
According to Toronto police, two suspects demanded her possessions, including the 21-month-old girl, at about 11 p.m. on Guildwood Parkway near Livingston Rd. It was explained that the 29-year-old mother was approached from behind and assaulted while she huddled over her baby to protect her. Police said the pair attempted to snatch the woman’s bag before she fell backwards, exposing her child, adding the child was allegedly taken from her mother. Thereafter, the mother immediately grabbed her baby back, while the pair fled after punching and kicking the woman. Const. Victor Kwong elucidated that “I think when they realized the bag was just a mommy bag, they ran off.” Immediately after the incident, the woman received treatment of her minor injuries, along with the baby, from a local hospital.
Police added that officers made arrests within an hour after the incident. The 12-year-old Toronto girl is charged with abducting a person under 14, two counts of robbery, assault and uttering threats. Whereas, the 14-year-old Toronto boy is charged with abduction of a person under 14, assault and two counts each of robbery, uttering threats, breach of recognizance and failure to comply. Both are scheduled to appear in court on Friday morning and cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
