Many pastimes pursued by women in the 19th century are enjoying a resurgence in popularity today. Textile arts such as knitting, ribbon work, needlepoint, and embroidery as well as crafts like paper flower-making and even millinery marvels like fascinators are being explored by a new DIY generation. Indeed, peruse the crafts so meticulously detailed by the doyenne of DIY Martha Stewart and you’ll see regular reference to their roots in the 19th century.
