Women Children and Persons with Disabilities Minister, Lulu XingwanaThe minister of people with disabilities, Lulu Xingwana has stated on Monday that a significant rise has been evident in the number of disabled people employed by the government.

Xingwana was addressing in Durban at the first day of the Eighth World Assembly of Disabled People. There she has impressively told that self-representation of disable people is also increased in Parliament, provincial legislatures and in local government. She has added the statics that Deputy Public Works Minister, Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu, along with 17 other members of Parliament had disabilities.

The institutions like the Human Rights Commission, the Commission on Gender Equality and the National Youth Development Agency also welcome people with disabilities represent them. Xingwana has told that government departments and provinces are setting up disability policies and targets in mainstreaming service delivery to persons with disabilities.

Disabled People’s International chairperson, Guzman Jara has said that the disable people should not be treated as inferior and it is the duty of every country to ensure the complete participation of its disable citizens to let them realize that their contribution is of utmost value to this society. It is a sad thing to view that disabled people are not part of political and economic activities. He called on countries to ensure that the science and technology were at the service of disabled people and its aim is to help them.
