Zuma considers a woman to replace Cele

National Police Commissioner General Bheki Cele was suspended with a full pay in October last year, and now he has been the subject of a judicial commission of investigation after the public protestor found irregularities in the awarding of two tenders for the lease of police headquarters in Pretoria and Durban. The case would be headed by Judge Jake Moloi.

General Cele would be the second consecutive police chief to depart from the services in humiliation soon, fired by President Jacob Zuma on the Wednesday night.

The presidency denied commenting on the reports that suspended National Police Commissioner General Bheki Cele has been fired on Thursday.

A presidential spokesperson has said, “We have no comment on the matter at this stage”.
It was said that Cele had been instructed to resign from his office and that his replacement was to be made to report for duty on July 1.  

Cele’s lawyer Vincent Maleka and Vuyo Mkhize, Cele’s spokesperson were not immediately available to deny or confirm the reports.

In the recent weeks, there has been a speculation that the president Zuma might replace Cele with advocate Nathi Nhleko who is currently an old colleague of Zuma’s and the director-general in the Department of Labor.     

On Wednesday night, it was confirmed by two police sources that Mhleko had already been undergone a preface of selection process but the third said that Zuma had had a last minute change and was now preferring a woman for the replacement.
