Juba County Commissioner Stephen Wani Michael told Gurtong that the insecurity rate has gone down by ten percent.
He however said child abduction remains one of the major insecurity threats in the metropolitan state.
Wani said child abductions have been reported in the Eastern parts of Juba particularly in Lokiliri Payam where a number of children were abducted last month.
Early this year the National Assembly summoned South Sudan’s security chiefs, the Central Equatoria State Governor and the Juba Mayor over the deteriorating security in the city.
The Assembly directed that responsible government agencies implement drastic measures to address the situation.
Among the recommendations to boost security were construction and rehabilitation of roads in the city to facilitate enhanced police patrols at night and opening a number of police stations in all the residential areas.
“These initiatives have made significant changes to the situation,” said the Commissioner. We are calling for more efforts in implementation of the resolutions passed by Parliament to improve the situation further”, said Wani.
