The supervisor at Malakal Way Station Mary John has said that transport for the returnees from Sudan to South Sudan was aided by African Inland Church in support with IOM.

“The first batch that arrived was 850 South Sudanese Returnees from different states such as Jonglei State, Upper Nile State, Unity State, Central Equatorial State, Western Bar El Ghazal State, and Northern Bar El Ghazal State,” she said.

“About 300 returnees have been now relocated to their counties in Upper Nile State, most of them moved to Kodok, Nasir, Ulang and some are now being prepared to move to the counties as registration is in progress for the verification by the IOM,” said the supervisor.

The Station supervisor also said that some families have started moving to their relatives especially those who belong to Upper Nile State.

“A family of 7 individuals yesterday left the station for their residential accommodation within Malakal,” she said adding that “the total numbers of returnees that remain now in the way station from Malakal are now 30 families.”

“Yesterday a total of about 770 were received and most of them belong to Wau, Rumbek, Aweil and Juba in Central Equatorial State,” she said.

“We usually provide them with 24,000 litres of water for their drinking and other domestic needs,” she said.

The Way Station Clinic Doctor, Philip Nyikang Upwol said that the clinic has also ran shortage of basic essential drugs like the antibiotics, drugs for diarrheal infection to help the returnees since they are faced by weather changes in the station.

“We have talk to the ministry of health and the WHO but they said that most of the essential drugs are out of stock,” said the supervisor.
