On Thursday, almost 100 residents carried out peaceful demonstration in Bor town after there was no feedback from state government regarding relocation to a high land for permanent settlement.

In August, flood displaced more than 900 households in some of the areas near the riverbanks in Bor town.

Last year, Jonglei state government issued an order that all the people residing in Hai-Fanjak should be relocated to another area leaving their current residential place to investors and other government dignitaries.

Speaking to one of the protestors, Madit Ayuen said they have stayed in water for almost 10 days without any assistance from state government.

He said it is the second time in a year after September heavy flood that they have been hit by the natural disaster.

Ayuen says government should look into their problem and reallocate them into new ground as proposed by the state government in 2012 during the demolition of Marol one market.

The other resident of Hai-Fanjak told Gurtong that since September they have been accommodating themselves in public places, saying none of the government and United Nations (UN) sees their conditions.

“They should relocate us because we are unable to stay here for more than two months,” she said.

They argued that they should not stay in water with young children because of water born diseases and urged the government to construct roads so that each and everyone can make water channel along the road.
