Sun Xu, a Chinese student enrolled in an undergraduate program at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and a Ministry of Education (MoE) scholarship holder, has been called by the disciplinary committee on Wednesday over accusation of using inappropriate words for Singaporeans.

NUS spokesperson informed the media that the board has spoken to Mr. Xu and now will take one to two weeks to come up with the final decision regarding the matter after speaking to senior academic personnel and administrators.

Once the decision taken by the disciplinary committee of National University of Singapore is announced, Mr. Xu will have a duration of 14 days to appeal against the verdict and clear the accusations on him, only if he decides to contest the decision.

The issue of inappropriate comments used for Singaporeans rose last month when Sun Xu made some aggressive posts to his blog after having an unpleasant encounter with some random person. He wrote, “There are more dogs than humans in Singapore”. The comment became viral within days and every Singaporean demanded an explanation for such harsh words being used for them over the internet. The matter was than raised in the Parliament when one of the members apologized for appearing to be taking sides with Mr. Xu.

After countless appeals filed by the student body to take action against Mr. Xu, the university board called him for a session as he has violated the Students’ Code of Conduct at the university.
