An astonishing and extraterrestrial rarity will occur next week when Venus will pass between the Sun and the Earth. It will be appearing as a small black dot on the Sun. This rare event will take place on June 5 and will not happen again until 2117.

NASA astronaut Don Pettit decides to add to historical nature of the day by planning to be the first person to take the picture of transit of Venus from the space.

He said, "I've been planning this for a while, I knew the Transit of Venus would occur during my rotation, so I brought a solar filter with me when my expedition left for the ISS in December 2011."

The event will occur on Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 7.p.m. The astronomy society will have a number of volunteers from 2:30 p.m. till dark that will be ready with protective glasses and telescopes at the park to ensure that the people can safely watch the transit of Venus.

People must not look at the sun through naked eyes because it is very dangerous to stare at the sun even in the mid-transit.  Proper eclipse or protective glasses or telescopes should be used in order to avoid permanent eye damage.

The least part of the passage will also be seen in many parts of the Earth including Eastern Africa, Asia, North America and Europe.
