Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak seemed incredibly comfortable answering questions covering almost all the issues lying under his domain. The PM appeared on a television show where he gave detailed replies to several questions posed by the diverse audience.
Talking about the upcoming general elections, Najib claimed that he is waiting for the right moment to dissolve Parliament, as there were still several pending tasks to be completed.
“It does take time (to show results of the various initiatives). I’m pleased that the outcome is positive. When we seek fresh mandate from people, we will be going on a very solid track record that we can show to the people that we have delivered to the rakyat,” he said.
He also talked about the importance of strengthening Malaysian security forces. He referred to the Lahad Datu incident as a wakeup call for Malaysians on the possible external threats.
“In terms of dealing with the armed intrusion, we certainly have the assets. But, as I said, this is a wake-up call. Where there are gaps in terms of our capabilities, we hope that we’ll be able to close them,” he said.
The PM said Barisan Nasional is vigilantly optimistic on its performance in the coming general elections; however, the party is not taking anything for granted.
“We believe the people are with the Government and they feel that their future is more secure with Barisan,” he claimed.
Najib pointed out that the Opposition has fallen flat on its election manifesto of 2008. He also questioned the funding of the Opposition’s election manifesto.
“The question is funding … that they have not stated. Based on what they have done, many of the promises contained in the (election) manifesto of 2008 have been left as empty promises,” he said.
