Caretaker Prime Minister Justice (R) Mir Hazar Khan Khoso will be sworn in today at 1pm. Mr Khoso was nominated by the Election Commission of Pakistan, a decision accepted by the major political parties of Pakistan.

On the other hand, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf inspected a guard of honor on Sunday which was presented to him at the PM House. He made a brief speech to appraise his party and the government which made it possible to fulfill the vision of Mohtarma Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.

“I have tried to discharge my responsibilities to the best of my abilities as the chief executive of the country,” Mr Ashraf said.

He gave credit to the policy of reconciliation pursued by President Asif Ali Zardari which helped lay the foundation of a welfare and democratic state. Nevertheless, he accepted that the government has failed in improving the security situation in the country, particularly in Karachi and Balochistan.

“No other nation of the world has been exposed to as many challenges as Pakistan and still our people remain determined to move on and are ready to render every sacrifice to protect their values of pluralism, diversity, tolerance and inclusiveness,” he said.

Before leaving the PM House, Mr Ashraf held a detailed meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari. Allegedly, Mr Asraf is interested in acquiring the PPP’s ticket for a National Assembly seat from Islamabad for his younger brother, Raja Imran Ashraf.

Mr Ashraf is facing two important cases in the Supreme Court — PKR 22 billion Rental Power Project swindle and the appointment of Tauqir Sadiq as chairman of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority.
