President Benigno Aquino III termed the allegations that his administration is harassing whistleblower Rodolfo Lozada Jr. as unfounded. He said these cases were registered during the previous administration and his government will not intervene in any capacity.
“Those cases were filed before I took office. If he equates not being harassed with being acquitted, I cannot do anything to make that happen… When we last talked, he said he can easily defend himself and he asked for certain documents that will prove his innocence. I told him to give us the list of documents that he needs,” President Aquino said.
The President said he did not intervene in the cases of Secretary Nereus Acosta and Elections Commissioner Grace Padaca, who are his party members, so how could he interfere in Lozada’s case. He said Malacañang had urged Lozada to list down the documents he needed to get back from PhilForest in order to clear his name, but he has not complied with his requests.
“The credibility of the witness on the stand will be determined by the justices who are hearing the case. Remember, the justices when considering a particular case or the credibility of a witness on the stand will only consider what is presented before that particular court. We will leave it to the justices on whether or not he is credible to stand as witness in the cases before them,” Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said.
