Federal Minister of Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal led a six-member delegation to Beijing to discuss Pakistan-China economic and development ventures. Syed Tariq Fatemi, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister and Nargis Sethi, Secretary Economic Affairs Division accompanied the minster.

The delegation met with the members of National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) of China to discuss the way forward for boosting economic ties between the countries. Both China and Pakistan have experienced a shift in power and the revised visions of new leaderships are now under consideration and implementation.

According to Mr Iqbal, the new Pakistani government highly values its long-lasting friendship with China and will make visible efforts to transform traditional, cordial relations into strong economic cooperation. He underlined the importance of new ventures which will integrate four growth engines of Asia – China, South Asia, Central Asia, and the Middle East – transforming the region into an economic hub.

Mr Iqbal also offered his deepest condolences at the brutal killings of Chinese tourists in the Northern areas of Pakistan. He termed the incident tragic, holding external forces responsible for plotting to weaken the incessantly escalating economic relations between the two friendly neighbors.

“People of Pakistan are grieved and shocked on this tragedy,” Iqbal confessed.

Vice Chairman NDRC, Zhang Xiaoqiang, offered his full support to improve development in Pakistan and said the new Chinese leadership including Premier Li Keqiang recognizes that integration of China’s West with Pakistan’s South-West could  promise enormous trade, commercial, and economic possibilities for the broader Asian region.
