The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) declared former captain Moin Khan as its chief selector on Monday. The 41-year-old former cricketer is the youngest chief selector appointed by PCB.

“Being chief selector in Pakistan cricket is a tough challenge for anyone because selection is not an easy job in a country where everyone is passionate about cricket. But I have a clear vision of how to go about things and start preparing for the 2015 World Cup. I can say there is talent in Pakistan cricket,” Moin said.

Before the announcement, Moin confirmed meeting Chairman PCB Najam Sethi in Lahore. Both discussed the responsibilities of chief selector and Moin explained his vision to the Chief. Moin has been tasked to prepare a team for the 2015 World Cup for which he would have to take some difficult decisions.

“Some hard decisions need to be taken but we have to keep in mind that we need to have a strong squad for the coming World Cup,” he said.

The PCB has confirmed that Moin will be working with already existing selection committee. The other selectors include former test players Saleem Jaffer, Azhar Khan and Farrukh Zaman.

Pakistanis are extremely passionate about cricket which makes the Board’s job even more difficult than it is. Former chief selector Iqbal Qasim had resigned immediately after the Pakistan team lost all three of its group matches in the Champions Trophy in England. Although he maintained that the reasons of his resignation are personal, the timing of this critical decision indicated otherwise.
