Two major bills were tabled in the National Assembly this Saturday. The bills are tabled to make Army courts legal according to the constitution. The National Assembly was supposed to start at 10 o’clock but failed to start on time. The number of parliamentarians was also low even though a major change was being made in the constitution. It was the 16th of December when the terrorists attacked the PAS (Public Army School) in Peshawar and killed more than 120 children as well as teachers and the head principal of the school.

Two bills were made after a series of All Parties Conference (APC) between all parties of the country. The conferences also included Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf  (PTI) which was protesting against the government before the attack. The bill was presented this Saturday even though it was a holiday. This was done to ensure a quicker process of approval.

The house has been adjourned for till the 5th of January 4:00 in the evening. The 21st amendment of the constitution bill as well as the Army Act 1952 bill have been tabled in the National Assembly by the Minister of Law, Justice and Human Rights, Perveiz Rasheed. After the parliamentarians approve it on Monday, it will be legally made as part of law and then acted upon it. A minimum of 228 votes are required out of 342. The ruling PML-N has 189 seats in the house of 342. The PPP has 46 seats, MQM 24, JUI-F has 13, PTI has 33, including its five disgruntled members and JI and PkMAP have four seats apiece in the house. The ANP has two seats in the house.
