Another young lifesaver participating in the surfing competition at the Gold Coast Beach was discovered dead on Thursday.
Worst fears of the family of Barclay family turned out to be true as the rescue and search teams discovered the body of the boy from Kurrawa Beach. The death of the 14 year old Mathew Barclay left the nation wonder about sending their kids to surfing competitions. Barclay disappeared while taking part in the surfing competition conducted by the Australian Surf Life Saving Championship and his body was discovered from Kurrawa Beach today. Barclay has become the third participating individual to give up his life during competition since 1996.
Lawyer of the family of the boy who lost his life the previous year in the same competition openly declared that the competition has once again failed in protecting the competitors and as a result there’s another family who lost their child at such a young age. He also proposed a ban to the competition and said that a royal commission must be set up.
The Premier of Queensland Campbell Newman commented on the death of the young surfer and said that it was a tragic incident. He condoled with the family of the deceased boy and said that he will make sure that a special investigation about the incident takes place if necessary.
