Former Premier of Queensland, Anna Bligh, remains positive and strong after being diagnosed with cancer at the age of 52. Bligh seems optimistic while preparing for the biggest fight of her life. She recently got a tumor removed from her neck.

“I am very grateful for the excellent care I have received from the staff of St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney, and the loving support of my family and friends. I am maintaining my positive attitude as I prepare for treatment,” Bligh said on Friday.

Bligh became Australia’s first female premier in 2009 and is known for her extensive development work after state flood in 2011; however, she failed to win a seat in 2012 elections. Bligh’s followers, party-members and political allies have offered support after hearing the news and have starting flooding motivational messages on social media.

“An inspiration to all Australians as she led Queensland through its darkest moments, Anna’s strength and courage will be crucial as she begins treatment for cancer,” PM Gillard said in a statement.

“We all saw just a couple of years ago during the Queensland floods the type of person Anna is – she’s made of pretty tough stuff. We’ll all be with her every step of the way until she’s back to full health,” Deputy Prime Minister Wayne Swan said.

“Best wishes to Anna Bligh and her family after her diagnosis. May she have the speediest of recoveries. Our prayers are with her,” Deputy Opposition leader Curtis Pitt tweeted.
