Exchange of harsh words between the leader of Opposition Tony Abbott and the premier of Australia – be it Julia Gillard or Kevin Rudd – does not come to a stop. Keeping the tradition alive, the new Prime Minister from Labor Party lashed out at Abbott in his first major speech after assuming office.

Speaking to the National Press Club on Thursday, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd expressed great eagerness to strengthen the mutual understanding between businesses, unions and the government. He requested the three basic pillars upon which rest the ease of national economic growth to develop a new national competitiveness agenda.

After sharing a brief outlook of his plans for Australia, the new premier moved on to criticizing the apt of Opposition Leader Abbott. Abbott had earlier said that he would only debate Rudd if he called an election or recalled Parliament.

“[Tony Abbott] is the most conservative politician to become leader of the Liberal Party in its history. He is particularly formidable in the art of negative politics… It is just plain wrong for anybody in our national political debate to be talking Australia down… Of course there are things we need to reform.

“But that is different to a daily diatribe of negative politics whose single objective is to cause the Australian people to feel that our national economy and our national security is on the verge of falling apart – if not now, then certainly by next Thursday afternoon,” Rudd said.
