The Ministry of Defence has announced to cut 5,300 army jobs in the third and the latest round of Military cuts.

The shadow defence secretary, Jim Murphy has told in the House of Commons that the plans to save money by replacing 20,000 soldiers with reservists had its “flaws exposed by world events”. He has blamed ministers of ignoring the growing threats of terrorism on new fronts.

Defence minister, Mark Francois has asked the MoD to ensure retaining the capabilities the Armed Forces required “in order to meet the challenges of the future”.

Mr. Francois has also warned regarding further army redundancies to be “likely” along with job cuts among the medical and dental personnel working with the navy and air force.

The overall aim is to get things done with £38bn cut in the defence budget. This ultimately follows the plans to reduce the size of the army by 20,000 by 2015.

The former head of the Army, General Lord Dannatt has also described the cuts as “very bad timing with the situation in Mali and in West Africa” as it would lead to reduce the defence capability at a crucial time.

Prime minister, David Cameron told about the current deficient resources and said: “If you look at the defence and security budget, it is actually in cash terms stable at £33 billion ($52 billion, 39 billion euros).

“What we have tried to do as a government, and perhaps we need to look again and go even further, is to focus on those threats to our security we face today.”
