Shrien Dewani and Anni Dewani on their weddingHoneymoon murder suspect Shrien Dewani faces extradition ruling to South Africa to face trial over his wife’s death.

British suspect, Mr. Dewani, 33, from Bristol, is accused of plotting the murder of his 28-year-old wife Anni Dewani, who was shot in the head as the newly married couple took a taxi ride on the outskirts of Cape Town in November 2010.

The engineering graduate and part-time model – Anni Dewani had been married for a matter of days when she was shot.

Mr. Dewani, a former businessman, has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and depression and is receiving treatment at a hospital near Bristol.

Mr. Dewani denies the charges, and his lawyers have are claiming that post-traumatic stress and depression mean he should not face trial in South Africa.

Until now three men have been convicted over the killing.

Taxi driver Zola Tongo was jailed for 18 years after he admitted his involvement in the murder, and another partner in the crime, Mziwamadoda Qwabe, got 25 years’ sentence after pleading guilty to murder.

Last year South African Xolile Mngeni was convicted of premeditated murder for shooting her. Prosecutors claimed that he was a hitman hired by Dewani to kill his wife, something that the 33-year-old suspect has consistently refused.

On Wednesday, Chief Magistrate Howard Riddle has rejected Mr. Dewani’s defence team attempt to stay in Britain for further hospital treatment telling Westminster Magistrates’ Court that the businessman should return to the country.

The businessman’s defence team has argued that the decision should be delayed by six months.

District Judge Riddle had ruled in 2011 that Mr. Dewani should be extradited, but this was successfully appealed against and he was ordered to look again at the case.

Dewani’s legal team has not indicated yet whether they would seek to challenge the ruling in the Supreme Court, the U.K.’s highest court.
