On Saturday, an Egyptian court has sentenced the former President Hosni Mubarak to life in prison on the charge of his involvement in putting about 850 protesters to death during last year’s uprising.

His former minister Habib el-Adli is also sentenced on the same charge by presiding judge Ahmed Refaat.

Mubarak's verdict was greeted by ecstatic chants from the family members of those killed during the uprising outside the court.

Mubarak ruled the country for 30 years that is considered as the years of darkness by the Egyptian people.

Mubarak’s sons Alaa and Gamal are acquitted due to the expiry of a decree of limitations along with six former police commanders. Even though Alaa and Gamal Mubarak are acquitted, they are to be remained in the police custody.

People shouted and scuffled in the court after the decision was announced. Journalists proclaim that this happened because of the court's decision to release four senior supporters of Mr Adly, who are also extensively blamed for assisting in the murder of the protesters.
