Three suspects wanted for murder of Abdi Ali Mohamud

Abdi Ali Mohamud (pronounced Mok-mood), 43, has been identified as the victim of the fatal shooting in the area of 86 Street and 106A Avenue on Friday June 3, 2011.

Mohamud and another male, 25, were walking together at approximately 3:00 a.m. when they were approached by three individuals. A brief confrontation quickly became violent, resulting in Mohamud’s death. The three suspects fled the scene prior to officer’s arriving less than three minutes later.

The Medical Examiner has confirmed Mohamud died of a gunshot wound. The 25-year-old was also wounded and is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries.

Homicide detectives have spoken with several witnesses of the crime and have also collected information and assistance from individuals in the Somalian community, which the victim was part of.

Background:

Just after 3:00 a.m. today, Friday June 3, 2011 the Edmonton Police Service received several calls reporting shots fired in the area of 86 Street and 106A Avenue.

Downtown patrol officers arrived at the scene in less than three minutes and found the body of a male lying in an alley with fatal injuries.

Autopsy is scheduled for Monday afternoon.
