Hamilton traffic fatality claims the life of Carlos Pacheco

The Hamilton Police Service Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the City of Hamilton’s 11th traffic fatality.

The victim, now identified as Carlos PACHECO, 42 yrs. of Hamilton, was pronounced as deceased at the scene. His son, the passenger in the front seat, remains in hospital in stable condition. The boys in the rear of the vehicle, friends of PACHECO’s son, were treated and released from hospital.

Investigators have determined that speed was a factor in the collision.

Background:

On Sunday June 12, 2011 at 11:25 AM a vehicle traveling south on Nebo Rd., Hamilton crossed the centre line and collided head on with a northbound pickup truck. The crash alerted nearby persons who rushed to assist the occupants of the vehicles. Emergency Services were notified and attended to assist.

A 42 year old male from Hamilton who was operating the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was traveling with three young males from Hamilton between the ages of 8 and 11 years. Two of the males were airlifted to hospital and the other male was taken to hospital by ambulance. One male remains in hospital for observation from injuries sustained in the collision. He is the son of the deceased male. The other two males were treated and released from hospital.

A 20 year old male from Smithville was operating the pick up truck. He was taken to hospital by ambulance where he was treated and released.

Nebo Road was closed between Twenty Road and Dickenson Road until 5:30 PM while members of the Hamilton Police Collision Reconstruction Team (CRT) investigated.

Next-of-kin of the deceased male have been notified and we are in the process of notifying other family members. His name is not being released at this time. The CRT along with the Coroner will be continuing the investigation. Any witnesses who have not spoken to police are requested to contact Hamilton Police Service.

Seatbelts were used by all involved persons and prevented serious injuries to the injured victims of this MVC.
