Based on their investigation, police believe that Tyler entered the water on Tuesday evening, in an attempt to retrieve a remote control boat he was operating at the time. His is believed to have been alone at that time.
An alert fisherman observed a vehicle and personal belongings on the shoreline, near the weir, shortly after 8:00 am yesterday morning. He reported his findings to the Lake Cowichan RCMP, who deployed resources to the area, including marine patrol and dive team officers. Tyler’s body was recovered by RCMP divers early yesterday afternoon. The BC Coroner Service will be conducting an autopsy in the days to come, and has now assumed the lead role on this case.
Police have ruled out foul play, and believe this death was the result of accidental drowning. Tyler’s family were notified of his passing yesterday.
The RCMP will not be releasing any further details on this matter, as it is now being handled by the BC Coroner Service.
