Wade Brunelle still missing after falling into Kettle River, BC

Update:

At approximately 9:45 am today, RCMP helicopter searching the Kettle River located a body in 5-7 metres of water, 150 metres south of the 68th St. Bridge in Grand Forks.

Search and Rescue were dispatched to the scene and Nelson Swift Water technicians recovered the body of 54-year-old, Wade Brunelle, who was identified at the scene.

Investigation is continuing, however it is know that Mr. Brunelle was a non-swimmer and he was not wearing a personal floatation device. Alcohol is believed to be a factor.

Background:

Search is continuing today for Wade BRUNELLE who went missing last evening around 8:00 pm. He was last seen having fallen off his raft on the Kettle River east of Grand Forks, approximately 100 m from the confluence of the Kettle and Granby Rivers, in deep swift water. He had been rafting with his brother, who lost sight of him. Another witness saw BRUNELLE in the water and then lost sight of him. BRUNELLE is a non-swimmer, nor was he wearing a personal floating device.

Search was conducted last evening by Grand Forks Fire-Rescue and Grand Forks Search and Rescue crews until after midnight. BRUNELLE’s raft was located but no sign of him.

Search today will include personnel from Search and Rescue teams out of Grand Forks, Nelson, Penticton and Castlegar, as well as RCMP support from the air and water. Further updates will be released once available.
