It seems like the widow of Jack Layton; MP Olivia Chow has a dismissive attitude towards heading the NDP. The party is reportedly out on a hunt for a new head of the party in the wake of Layton’s death. Chow’s companion and the legendary NDP leader passed away on Aug. 22 while suffering from cancer.

In a broadcasted talk, Chow announced that she will carry on working in the House of Commons and not penetrate into the upcoming control battle.

The NDP’s federal council is scheduled to convene in Ottawa on Friday to form the rules for the impending competition. The executive panel will choose the time and conduct of the race.

Budding candidates, including NDP party president Brian Topp and second-in-command party head Thomas Mulcair, have not formally declared if they will take part in the pursuit but have given clues of their curiosity. Leadership aspirers are waiting to discover what the competition structure appears to be before they decide about entering it.

According to Mulcair, he is only going to jump into the race if a leadership caucus takes place in the spring. In a letter written shortly before his death, Layton alleged he wants the leadership caucus to take place as soon as possible in the New Year.
