Chatham Woman Charged for Defrauding Charity

A Chatham woman was arrested yesterday in connection with multiple frauds involving a local charity.

On August 26, 2011 a representative of Habitat for Humanity Chatham-Kent contacted police to report fraudulent activity in their bank account.

The Chatham-Kent Police Financial Crimes Unit investigated the complaint and found that $24,196.80 was missing and that $5,688.77 is owed on unauthorized vehicle rentals. It is alleged that the Executive Director forged 20 cheques between March and August of this year.

Yesterday, Kimberley WEBER, 41, of Chatham was arrested and charged with 20 counts of forgery, 20 counts of uttering a forged document, and two counts of fraud over $5,000. She is scheduled to appear in court on October 26, 2011.
