The opposition leaders of Ontario have successfully bullied out another 36,000 pages document of government emails and communication regarding the reallocation of the gas plants. Tim Hudak, the leader of opposition, reportedly stated that the Tories are still going to continue with the contempt motion regardless of the release. This contempt of Parliament motion is so sensitive that it can easily bring all relevant business at the legislature to a sudden pause, including the daily question period.
The Progressive Conservatives have decided to move forward with the motion which will allege the Energy Minister Bentley in contempt to the legislature as the Liberals delayed to release the information regarding the cancellation of the two power plants for months. Hudak announced that he intends to teach Liberals a lesson so that in the future Parliamentarians will not have to fight the government to release the information which they have a legal right to know. Hudak reported that "I don't know whether it was orders from the Liberal campaign team, I don't know whether it was orders from the premier's office, but they're putting Minister Bentley out on the cross on this."
Bentley was witnessed to have violated the privilege of a member of parliament by not releasing the documents regarding the gas plant reallocation upon request, though he later he was forced by the Speaker and had to obey and release all the documents on Monday. The controversial documents show that the government’s decision to reallocate the gas plants initiated in Oakville and Mississauga will cost the taxpayers another $40 million than the previously announced amount, totally the sum up to $240 million.
