An audio clip recorded at the time of interview of Toronto Mayor Rob Ford by a newspaper in 2010 is going to be presented in front of court today as key evidence in a $6-million libel trial.

Rob Ford has been sued by a local pub owner, George Foulidis, as he claims that Ford’s comments during his 2010 mayoralty campaign falsely accused him of making an illegal deal with the city.In 2010, the city handed out an untendered 20-year lease extension for Tuggs for operating the Boardwalk Pub, which is located on city property along Woodbine Beach.

City councilor of the time, Rob Ford, numerously criticized the deal during his mayoralty campaign, as Foulidis alleges that Ford asserted that his company had won the deal from a result of an illegal activity. Foulidis informed the court on Wednesday that Ford’s criticism made him feel “humiliated” and “like a criminal.” Furthermore, he also stated that Ford’s false accusation had adverse affects on his family too.

The whole lawsuit is based on a news report published in the Toronto Sun on Aug. 11, 2010. The story paraphrased Ford stating that the city’s deal with Tuggs “smacks of civic corruption.” Ford’s lawyer, Gavin Tighe, has argued his client did not utter those words in a direct quote. The recording clip was not available on Tuesday, on the first day of trial, but now but now it has been found and will be presented.
