The Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has given a directive order to Marineland for cleaning up its water and correcting all health issues with specific animals. The orders were kept a secret from media until now. Unconfirmed sources have revealed that the demand notice consists of total seven orders from OSPCA,  five of which will have to be completed by the end of this month, while the remaining two are already been complied with. The anonymous whistle blower claims that public has a right to know.

Furthermore, the demand notice orders Marineland to consult an outside expert for a complete assessment of its water and filtration system, while also ordering them to install a new environmental enrichment program for the lone killer whale, Kiska. So far these two demands have been complied with by Marineland. Additionally, sources tell that in case Marineland fails to comply with the remaining orders of OSPCA in due time, it is legally entitled to lay charges.

A spokesperson, Alison Cross, claims that the order was a standard practice, explaining that “this is an ongoing investigation.” she further added that “to protect the integrity of the investigation we cannot speak to details at this time.” The secrecy observed by the OSPCA is being highly criticized by many spectators. Progressive Conservative MPP, Frank Klees, accused the OSPCA to have lacking transparency, alleging that “It’s a totally dysfunctional organization.” These orders are a part of OSPCA’s ongoing investigation into the Niagara Falls tourist attraction.
