Authorities have recovered one more dead body from the site of the Lac-Megantic train derailment disaster, which sums up the cumulative death toll to 38. However, Coroner’s office confirmed on Tuesday that only twelve of these victims have been positively identified so far. Meanwhile, authorities believe that an additional 12 victims are still missing, and presumed death, at the so-called red zone, or epicenter of the blast.

One of the largest rail road calamity that ever took place in Canadian history occurred in result of derailment oil filled tanker train that caught fire immediately. The extensive search mission continued on Tuesday as rescue workers scrutinized the accident scene that now mostly consists of scorched earth, soot and oil-soaked rubble. Police has explained that rescue workers are suffering with an overwhelming summertime heat and hence are only able to work in 15-minute shifts. Authorities revealed that two rescue workers suffered severe injured over the weekend, one of whom suffered from exhausting heat while the second was treated for debris that got into her eye.

A combined effort of different groups including specially trained police, firefighters and forensic anthropologists, have assembled in search and rescue teams that are going over the debris in staggering heat for more than a week since Canada’s worst railway disaster. A paramedic at the scene, Claude Plante, explained that there are also teams that are helping care for rescue workers in the red zone. Plante added that “we take the ambulance and we visit all the people and give them water, we check their vital signs, we do prevention.”
