The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team of British Columbia and New Westminster Police have both launched a joint investigation in order to solve a case involving death of two online escorts, both of whom were found dead in the same apartment complex within two weeks. Consequently, the RCMP has issued an extraordinary public warning to B.C. to escorts in wake of the New Westminster deaths.

In the public warning issued by the RCMP, RCMP spokeswoman Sgt. Jennifer Pound mentions that “investigators know both women were engaged in a high-risk lifestyle and were working as online escorts,” elucidating that “IHIT’s priority is to reach out to all escorts and remind them of the risks involved and to take extra precaution as it is unclear at this point why, or even if, they are in fact being targeted.” It was added that “there’s a number of outreach programs for sure that people can reach out to and get assistance from.”

45-year-old Jill Lyons was found dead in her apartment in the 200 block of 11th Street Aug. 12, regarding which police claims no obvious cause of death was found as Mounties wait for toxicology results. On the other hand another 48-year-old escort, Karen Nabors, was found dead in her suite in the same building on Sunday. Both victims had advertised their services online, and they knew each other. Pound has stated that “as a result of the similar nature and geography of the two deaths IHIT has taken conduct of both investigations.”
