In an odd accident on Tuesday afternoon, a car ran into Laval’s Face à Face daycare centre on St. Martin Blvd. W., causing three children and one adult to be abruptly rushed to hospitals with severe injuries. All children were shifted via ambulance to a level three trauma centre at Ste. Justine Hospital in Montreal for treatment with serious injuries, while the 80-year-old female driver was carried to Sacré Coeur Hospital.

Marc-André Gagnon, with Urgences Santé, reports that the driver aimlessly smashed through front of the daycare a short while before 2 p.m. It was pointed out that there is a parking spot at the mall right in front of the daycare. According to speculation of Laval Police Constable, Franco Di Genova, woman’s car had to climb two four- to six-inch curbs before she crashed through the plate glass, and so “she may have thought she was in reverse when she was in drive.” The Garderie Educative Bilingue Face à Face is home to 35 children aged between 2 to 5, and located in a strip mall at 535 St. Martin, east of Highway 15.

An eye witness at the scene, Melly Yeghyazrian, alleged that “it had happened a few minutes before I came back but still, to see kids in that state, it’s shocking.” She reported that “it isn’t a big space, so you know there had to have been kids trapped under that car. I asked police if anyone was hurt and they said everything was going to be okay but I don’t know. I can’t even imagine what the families are going through.”
