A U.S. Federal Jury ordered Samsung Electronics Co Ltd to pay $290 million to compensate the damages faced by Apple. The jury engaged in a two day consideration to analyze both sides and came up with a decision on Thursday in San Jose, federal court in California. During the week long trial Apple requested the amount of $379.8 million where as Samsung argued that the only amount it should have to pay is $52.7 million.

It’s been two years since Samsung and Apple have been fighting in the courts. Apple accuses Samsung of copying various features as well as the designs of its brand iPhone. Various features include using fingers to pinch screens which creates a zooming effect. Apple was able to convince the jury and so was awarded more than $1 billion. The U.S. District Judge, Lucy Koh later upheld around $640 million of that verdict but the rest was to be reconsidered after another trial. The retrial was due to some serious miscalculations by the previous jury. After the retrial verdict, the total amount awarded to Apple adds up to $929.8 million in this particular case.

Apple issued  a statement which said that the case had been ‘about innovation and the hard work that goes into inventing products that people love.’ It  further added, ‘While it’s impossible to put a price tag on those values, we are grateful to the jury for showing Samsung that copying has a cost.’ Whereas the Samsung spokeswoman, Lauren Restuccia said ‘We are disappointed by today’s decision. While we move forward with our post-trial motions and appeals, we will continue to innovate with groundbreaking technologies and great products that are loved by our many customers all around the world.’
