Edmontonians have been disallowed to park their vehicles on collector bus routes from 7 a.m. on Friday morning due to city crews working to clear snow from the road surface. According to the officials, this latest seasonal parking ban has been placed in light of a series of minor snowfalls over the holidays.

It is disclosed that any vehicle found parked on marked seasonal parking ban routes can be tagged and towed, and even if the crews have already passed through, the ban will be kept in place as long as it is not formally lifted. Consequently, violators will most likely be made to pay parking ticket of $50, whereas in cases when vehicle may be towed, the owner would have to pay $100. Analysts are predicting that the parking ban will most expectedly be lifted at some point over the weekend, and after that the city will target windrows on collector bus routes, including targeted parking bans.

In a press release issued by the Director of Roadway Maintenance, Bob Dunford, he mentioned that “the significant snow accumulation Edmonton received through November and December means we need to remove the windrows along the collector bus routes where we’ve plowed.” He further explained that “windrow removal on collector bus routes will take approximately three weeks, during which time blowers and trucks need to have unobstructed access to those roads.” Officials claim that the targeted parking bans will only be in effect during specific times on certain routes where work is being done.
