Toronto Mayor, Rob Ford, is anticipated to address the audience at a campaign event for his brother Doug Ford this evening, which will be his first public appearance since undergoing chemotherapy for a rare form of cancer. Ford was reportedly seen going door-to-door earlier on Friday night in Etobicoke and is now scheduled to speak with attendees at the annual Ford Fest community barbecue, though the exact time for his speech is not known. According to the organizers, the event will be held at 2200 Islington Avenue between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Doug Ford mentioned in his remarks on Saturday morning that “he is just going to talk to the people and remind everyone what a great job this administration has done for this city and how this city is booming on all fronts and has broken every record there is.” Mayor Ford had checked himself into the hospital almost three weeks ago with abdominal pain and was diagnosed with a malignant liposarcoma. Thereafter, the mayor was released from Mount Sinai Hospital on Tuesday after undergoing three days of chemotherapy.

Addressing the reporters on Saturday, Doug Ford explained that tonight’s barbecue will be the “actual launch” of his election campaign. Ford is being criticized by his opponents for skipping the latest mayoral debate at the Empire Club of Canada on Friday, which he withdrew with only 90-minutes’ notice. He mentioned that “I am going to be at a tremendous amount of debates (going forward) and I look forward to addressing the issues and showing my experience compared to (John) Tory’s lack of experience.”
