On Friday, December 10, 2010, at approximately 3 a.m., officers working out of the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit were conducting an investigation in the area of Weston Road and Ray Avenue, in the City of Toronto. Officers were investigating a suspect wanted for a series of gas station robberies throughout the Greater Toronto Area that began in November 2010.
Officers approached two suspects in a vehicle in an attempt to arrest them when an altercation ensued and shots were fired by police.
As a result of the shooting, one suspect was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The second suspect was transported to hospital with non-life- threatening injuries.
One officer sustained non-life threatening injuries as a result of this incident, was treated in hospital and released.
