Hamilton woman killed in a head on collision with a truck

On Tuesday, January 18th, 2011 at approximately 11:40 a.m., a Kia Sportage was eastbound on Mud St. east of Tapleytown Rd., Hamilton (Stoney Creek). The vehicle crossed the centre line and collided head on with a westbound International Flat Bed Truck carrying a small tow motor. The International truck pushed the Kia back into the eastbound lane and both vehicles came to rest in the eastbound lane.

The Hamilton Police Service, Fire and EMS attended the scene. The 42 yr. old female driver of the Kia was pronounced dead at the scene. The 61 yr. old male driver of the International truck was treated by EMS at the scene and released.

The identity of the deceased woman is pending a post mortem today.

It is believed that the deceased is related to the owner of the Kia and that family is assisting police with the investigation.

A large fuel spill from both vehicles occurred as a result of the collision. Mud St. was closed between Tapleytown Rd. and 5th Rd. E. until the early evening to allow for officials from the City of Hamilton and the Ministry of the Environment to clean up the spill.

The victim from the Mud St. traffic fatality has been identified.

Annette WALDICK, 42 yrs. of Hamilton died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision. No other persons were physically injured. The next of kin have been notified and have consented to the release of her name to the media.

The investigation into the cause of the collision continues.
