Mark Cuban livid after loss to Golden State Warriors

The Dallas Mavericks are planning to lodge a formal protest with the NBA over a particular play during their recent 127-125 loss to the Golden State Warriors. The play in question occurred after a timeout was called in the third quarter, and resulted in the Warriors being given possession of the ball to inbound on one end of the court, while the Mavericks lined up on the other end as if it was their possession. This confusion led to a wide open basket for the Warriors.

Although the Mavericks protested at the time, the game continued and the Warriors went on to win by two points. Mavericks owner Mark Cuban took to Twitter after the game to share his understanding of what had happened. However, crew chief Sean Wright’s postgame explanation suggests that the referee’s stance is that the Mavericks were in the wrong.

Despite this, the Mavericks have 48 hours to officially file their protest with the league’s office, including a fee of $10,000. The fee will only be reimbursed if the protest is successful. Once the protest is acknowledged by commissioner Adam Silver, the Grizzlies and Warriors will have five days to provide any evidence. Silver will then make a final determination.

The loss to Golden State dropped the Mavericks below .500 for the season, but they are still within reach of a playoff spot with a few weeks left in the regular season.
