The 2013 Sudirman Cup Badminton Championships have been underway on Tuesday May 21st 2013, at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Quarter-finals will be starting from today and Finals will be played on Sunday May 26th. Plenty of spectators are gathering to watch and enjoy this prestigious event.
This tournament is the world mixed team badminton championship which takes place every two years. There are five matches in each round: men and women’s singles, men and women’s doubles and mixed doubles. The Cup is on the name of, a former Indonesian badminton player Dick Sudirman who was the founder of the Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI). The first Sudirman Cup tournament since 1989 in Bung Karno Stadium, Central Jakarta, Indonesia. China is the defending champion and one of the favorites to win this tournament.
On Monday 20th May, Korea beat Hong Kong by 4-1 and Chinese Taipei beat Germany by 5-0 in round one while in round two France beat Canada by 3-2. In next round Switzerland beat Kazakhstan by 5-0 and Vietnam beat Lithuania by 5-0.
On Tuesday 21st May, Japan beat Denmark while Germany wins over Malaysia. After that match Quarter-final matches been scheduled.
In Quarter-finals, China will play against Indonesia while Denmark will take in Chinese Taipei. On the other side Korea will be playing with Germany and Japan will be facing Thailand.
