More and more experimental films are being churned out in Bollywood, something that is turning out to be a good sign indeed. Along with such genre of films, it is also pretty much expected that the music too would tread an experimental line. To make that happen, composer Clinton Cerejo gets his biggest break as he puts together an entire soundtrack with Amitabh Bhattacharya as the lyricist for Te3N.

  MUSIC

Clinton brings himself behind the mike for 'Haq Hai', a song about a man fighting out for what truly belongs to him. Though there is sense of despair and hopelessness somewhere in the background, the inherent theme of the song revolves around still carrying that glimmer of hope. What could have turned out to be an out and out rock song is given a soft tone with good 'thehrav' in there that makes it a good hear.

What turns out to be truly beautiful is 'Kyun Re' which arrives in two versions – one each by Amitabh Bachchan and Clinton Cerejo. A very neat hear which turns out to be soul stirring indeed, it starts off quite slowly and stays the same way right through with just the sound of guitar in the background. The song is about feeling helpless after being left in the lurch due to the loss of someone really special. Amitabh Bachchan brings on the right kind of sensitivity to the song and is extremely balanced in the way he renders it. On the other hand Clinton too justifies his version for this song which deserves a repeat hear.

  It is the sound of 'shankh' in the middle of Durga Puja that kick-starts the proceedings for 'Rootha'. Soon enough the beats take over and the Western fusion too is seamless for this number which has Benny Dayal leading the proceedings with Divya Kumar pitching in quite well. This one appears to be a pre-climax song and should turn out to be the high point of the film. Meanwhile, there is a regional touch brought in as well with Bianca Gomes rendering a few lines in Bengali.

  In a Sujoy Ghosh film, it is pretty much expected that Vishal-Shekhar would feature. Well, while they are not the composers in this Sujoy production, at least Vishal's vocals are heard in 'Grahan'. A dark number which goes with the mood and flavor of the lyrics that have been put together by Amitabh Bhattacharya, 'Grahan' has 80s style arrangements to it and takes one to the dark underbelly of the crime world.

  OVERALL

The music of Te3N has a consistent 'sur' to it and while one may not play on the entire soundtrack in the time of leisure, it should fit in well into the narrative of the film.
