The Government of Southern Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit yesterday met the Consul General of the Republic of Peoples’ of China in Juba Ambassador Li Zhiguo in his office.

The meeting discussed bilateral relations between the two countries.

In his first meeting with President Kiir, Ambassador Zhiguo briefed the GoSS on important attachment of the Chinese Government to South Sudan.

“We have discussed important issues on bilateral relations between China and South Sudan”, said Ambassador Zhiguo in a press statement after the meeting.

Ambassador Zhiguo also conveyed a message from the Chinese Vice President to President Kiir.

“My main agenda today is to inform President Kiir that China has upgraded diplomatic relations in South Sudan that means we are to boost the existing cordial relations with the Government of Southern Sudan that was developed since the visit of President Kiir to China”, he said.

“We also wish to express readiness to support GOSS as was the case in 1972 when the first Chinese doctors came to South Sudan”, said Ambassador Zhiguo.

The meeting was also attended by the Director General for Bilateral Relations Baak Wol Akol and the Director of Protocol and Public Relations at the Ministry of Regional Cooperation Sabit Bullen Kamonde.

Ambassador Zhiguo and his delegation handed President Kiir a present from the Chinese Government.
