The State Ministry of Health in Northern Bahr el Ghazal in conjunction with the United Nations Children’s Fund [UNICEF] and the World Health Organization [WHO] on Tuesday launched the first polio campaign for 2015 targeting 400, 000 children of 5 years and below in the state.

AWEIL, 25 February 2015 [Gurtong]- The Acting Director General for the Ministry of Health in the state, Mr. Albert Anei urged guardians, parents and the chiefs of the community to cooperate with the health workers during the vaccination period as they will be moving from door to door.

“My message goes to the guardians, parents, chiefs of every residential areas of this state to cooperate with vaccinators so that they avail their children for vaccination. When you present your child for vaccination you will find that you have contributed positively towards eradicating polio in our state and in our country.” Anei said while addressing the parents and community elders at the state civil hospital in Aweil town.

Anei asked the health workers not to leave any house with children under the age of five during the vaccination exercise.

“And to you my dear vaccinators make sure you pass via every house located in every residential areas of these state. Make sure that you move from door to door telling whoever is available at home in order to bring their children for vaccination,” said Anei

The first round campaign kicked off on Tuesday and will continue till Friday 27. Approximately over 2000 vaccinators were tasked on Tuesday to cover all the areas of the state within 4 days in order to reach the target of 400, 000 children.
