President Salva Kiir Mayardit has pledged to push for the implementation of the Arusha Agreement for the reunification of the SPLM Party in a bid to end the conflict in the country.

Spokesperson of the SPLM Political Bureau Akol Paul told journalists at the conclusion of a meeting on Tuesday evening involving the agreement’s co-guarantors that President Kiir recommitting himself to the implementation of Arusha Agreement.

Akol said the president met with the Deputy President of the African National Congress (ANC) who is the Vice President of South Africa, the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) secretary general and the foreign ministers of Republic of Kenya, Ethiopia and South Sudan.

“The meeting discussed the role of co-guarantors in the implementation of the Arusha Agreement and they have reiterated their commitment to continue to support the process of peace in South Sudan” he said.

He added that the SPLM Leadership met today in a joint meeting between the advance team of the former detainees and the SPLM Tripartite with the meeting being chaired by the chairman of the SPLM President Kiir.

“This meeting was very cordial and fruitful. We would also take this opportunity to appeal to the SPLM in Opposition to join this process to being this conflict to an end through peaceful means”, said Akol.

He disclosed that an expanded meeting of the SPLM leadership was to be held later and which would be attended by the members of the National Liberation Council (NLC) and other seniors’ members of the SPLM, in the cabinet and some commissions.
